DROPPING THE GAUNTLET — Sports are competitive, and if you are a sports fan, you are probably a competitive individual.
Some fans, though, take competition to another level.
Oregon’s Duck mascot is one of them — as is a Hawaii linebacker who tried to take down San Diego State star Rashaad Penny, and Marshawn Lynch while he served an NFL-mandated suspension by going back to high school.
Here are some of our favorite moments from the week. As always, click the video above for the complete compilation.
Cosmo has a challenger
Remember when Cosmo the Cougar was the best thing about BYU’s football season, taking the nation by storm with his “sick” dance moves alongside BYU’s Cougarettes?
The Oregon Duck thinks he can do better.
The lovable (or laughable, depending on your allegiances) Pac-12 mascot challenged Cosmo via Twitter during a break in Oregon’s 41-20 win over Utah (which at least a few BYU fans certainly saw, because … you know, Utes).

We may be biased, as BYU is a local university and Oregon is not. But we think Cosmo easily won this round, at least based on current moves. To be fair, we’d also say the same thing if “Ducky” challenged Swoop, Big Blue, Jazz Bear or Leo the Lion.
Nice try, Duck.
Instead of retaliation, we’ll leave you with Cosmo’s “official” response, courtesy of BYU associate athletic director Duff Tittle.
Not @byu_cosmo but a good effort @TheOregonDuck. Great day for a 41-20 score?!? 👍🏼 Now lets see you do this... pic.twitter.com/nj444VC513#BYUhttps://t.co/lIa99xsn0Z

Whatever works
Not many teams have been able to slow down San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny, who has quietly run for more than 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns just eight games into the 2017 college football season.
Hawaii tried something new to stop him — though it didn’t work.
‘Bows linebacker Jahlani Tavai was one defender tasked to stop him Saturday night during the Aztecs’ 28-7 win. But it didn’t end well.

San Diego State (7-2) travels to 1-8 San Jose State next Saturday.
Marshawn Lynch works out high schoolers during suspension
The Oakland Raiders lost to Buffalo 34-14 (let that sink in) Sunday while star running back Marshawn Lynch served out a league-mandated suspension for making contact with an official.
But the polarizing rusher wasn’t sitting on his couch all week waiting to get back to the team.
Lynch used his personal bye week to return home to Oakland (California) Technical High School, practicing with his old team and stiff-arming the school’s current generation.

Apparently, this is illegal under California Interscholastic Federation rules, though. The CIF is investigating the matter, and punishments are likely coming, according to USA Today.
