OREM — Orem police responded to a shooting Thursday afternoon at 515 E. 1834 South that left one man in critical condition.

Arthur Henry Freek, 60, was arrested later Thursday evening on suspicion of attempted murder and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

He was booked into Utah County Jail at 6:40 p.m., according to a booking report. He is being held without bail.

Police say two men who are related were involved in the shooting, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m.

The victim, 53, was shot in the chest. The man was taken to Utah Valley Hospital in critical condition and was scheduled to go into surgery, police said.

Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez said the victim had been shot but was able to make it to the front lawn of the house, where police found him when they responded to the scene.

At about 2:15 p.m., Orem police tweeted that the area of the shooting was safe.

Freek lives in the house where the incident occurred, police said, but it was not clear if the shooting victim also lives there.

There were other family members at the residence at the time of the shooting, according to Martinez. Police were still interviewing them Thursday afternoon to sort out what led up to the shooting.
