HURRICANE — A Hurricane man was arrested Sunday after allegedly assaulting his wife and child.

Officers were called to a home in Hurricane Sunday just after 5 p.m. on a domestic abuse call. After an investigation, officers learned that Michael Christopher Mason, 44, had gotten into an argument with his wife before entering one of his children’s bedrooms. Mason wrapped his hands around his 8-year-old son's neck, according to a probable cause statement, before punching him in the face.

The wife, who said she feared for the children’s safety according to police, intervened to stop her husband. Mason then grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground, where he put his knee on her head to hold her down. The wife said it felt like his full weight was on her, according to the probable cause statement.

The 8-year-old boy called police as Mason attempted to stop the boy; however, the boy was able to leave the home and get to a neighbor’s house down the street.

After being arrested, Mason told police “that his wife would regret this,” according to the probable cause statement.

The boy sustained injuries to the neck and face and a cut behind his ear. The woman also had injuries to the head, according to the probable cause statement. Two other children were present in the home at the time of the incident, but did not sustain any injuries.

Mason was arrested on investigation of child abuse, assault and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, which are each felony offenses.
