SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, or UPHE, filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against Diesel Sellerz, of Woods Cross.

The business, as featured in Discovery Channel's Diesel Brothers, is known for designing and selling tricked out trucks. The lawsuit also claims they routinely remove pollution control devices from diesel trucks, and sells devices that circumvent that process.

"Diesel Exhaust contains over 40 substances that are hazardous air pollutants," Denni Cawley, executive director of UPHE, explained, "And these are in the reservoir of air that we breathe in. I have kids myself, and we get blasted by this black smoke, and it's not healthy."

UPHE shared videos with the media from YouTube, featuring trucks the company worked on, unloading black smoke onto nearby vehicles, something they call, "rolling coal." The lawsuit asks the company to stop interfering with pollution control devices and follow guidelines set by the Clean Air Act.

"It's hard to think that there is a business that is really making a profit out of putting a health risk for their families and for the community," Cawley said.

An employee at Diesel Sellerz told KSL they currently have no response to the lawsuit.
