PROVO — The Utah Music Awards were held Saturday evening, highlighting some of the many talented artists in the Beehive State.
The awards are designed to give musicians who are just getting their start some recognition and a chance to network. The judges who decide who gets the prizes are all professionals, many of whom work in fields that hire talent.
Get to know three of the up-and-coming musicians who were awarded Saturday by checking out their best work:
Jennifer Thomas
Pianist Jennifer Thomas worked with Utahn Tel Stewart to create a beautiful forest ballet to accompany her rendition of “Carol of the Bells,” which won Best Cinematography at the 2016 Utah Music Awards.

NATIVE/TONGUE
NATIVE/TONGUE, a band that is on the fast track to success, won Best Alternative Artist Saturday night. They were specifically recognized for their song, "Conscript."
With a funky, folky sound, newcomer Danny Heslop won Best New Artist for the jaunty “This Love May.” Heslop’s debut album was the result of a successful crowdfunding campaign — and his fanbase is still growing.
