LOGAN — An Ogden man died Sunday after being thrown from his motorcycle on US-89 near Logan, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said a call was made just after 1 p.m. reporting a man in need of medical help between Logan and Garden City near the Tony Grove Lake turnoff.

Warren D. Karns, 67, was traveling at what UHP called “a high rate of speed” when his northbound motorcycle went off the roadway and hit a rock, throwing him from the vehicle. Karns was able to climb back to the roadway and flag a passing motorist but stopped breathing shortly after, UHP said.

According to authorities, CPR was administered until emergency personnel arrived, but Karns died on the scene.

Karns was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
