CENTERVILLE — Shea Wride, the son of fallen Utah County Sgt. Cory Wride, has been working hard to raise money to get hundreds of patrol cars fitted with bulletproof glass.

He started the Utah Code 4 foundation after his father was shot to death through the windshield of his patrol car.

“He took the fatal shot, right here and then the next one right here,” said Nanette Wride, the widow of Cory Wride.

At International Armoring in Centerville, the first couple of police vehicles were measured for new bulletproof glass Tuesday.

“This hits home because Cory was shot and killed through the windshield,” Nanette Wride said. “To me, it's a no-brainer. Just like officers need bulletproof vests, they need to have bulletproof windshields to protect them.”

International Armoring is donating the first few sets of front and side windows, but the actual cost will run about $6,000 per car.

Mark Burton, vice president at International Armoring, says his company has tracked about 250 lives their work has saved around the world.

“We do have a lot of clients that call after the fact and say ‘I love you,’” Burton said.

In the two years since Cory Wride was killed in the line of duty this is one day his son Shea has looked forward to.

"Personally, it brings to light everything that happened to my dad and it shows me that we can protect officers and we need this for them,” Shea Wride said. “So if we can do this for them, no matter what it costs, we should.”
