SALT LAKE CITY — Police have released the name of a man who died when the dump truck he was driving rolled down a 300-foot embankment and into standing water at the Staker Parson quarry Tuesday night.
He was 53-year-old Blaine Linck, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Workers at the quarry, located at 2080 N. Beck St., noticed Linck was missing shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday so they went looking for him, according to Capt. Mark Bednarik of the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
"His operation was to dump rocks into a quarry. It's about a 300 foot drop down into this quarry. When they went and checked that quarry, they could see that his dump truck was at the bottom. It appeared it had rolled down the embankment," Bednarik said.
The truck landed right-side up, but the cab and the man were completely submerged in about an acre of water, Bednarik said. The co-workers rushed to help Linck.
"Two employees here dove in, were able to pull him out of the dump truck while others were calling 911," Bednarik said.
Fire crews responded, made their way down the rugged quarry terrain and administered CPR, but could not save his life.
He was pronounced dead on scene, Bednarik said.

Because of the extensive mud and rock debris in the quarry, Salt Lake fire crews needed the equipment from their heavy rescue team to get Linck back to the top and transport his body to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.
The Salt Lake City Police Department and OSHA are investigating the incident as an industrial accident. Whether he was killed due to injuries sustained in the crash or if he drowned was still being investigated Wednesday.
