PARADISE, Cache County — Two people were arrested after a man allegedly broke into a home and threatened its residents with a gun Tuesday night.
The man pointed a gun in a resident's face and searched multiple areas of the Paradise home at about 6:20 p.m., according to the Cache County Sheriff's Office. A pursuit began when a nearby deputy tried to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle that reportedly drove "off the shoulder of the road and around the deputy's truck."
A second attempt to stop the vehicle was unsuccessful as it continued to speed through several communities in southern Cache County, according to the sheriff's office. Once the vehicle reached Logan, a deputy was able to temporarily stop the vehicle, which then "rammed the patrol truck and continued to flee," investigators said. Two people were taken into custody at 200 North and 600 West in Logan after a deputy "impacted" the vehicle.
Douglas Birkinbine, 53, and Victoria Asta, 51, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and assault on a police officer, among other potential charges. They were both booked into the Cache County Jail.
