SALT LAKE CITY — BYU guard Tyler Haws and Utah guard Delon Wright were named to the John R. Wooden Award preseason Top 50 Monday afternoon.

Haws, a 6-foot-5 senior, and Wright, a 6-foot-5 senior, were among 50 college basketball players chosen in a preseason poll by college basketball experts. It is the second consecutive season Haws has been named to the list.

Last season, Haws was the nation's No. 2 scorer, averaging 23.2 points per game, and is ranked fifth all-time in BYU scoring. Haws was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American last season.

Wright, who was a junior college transfer, was named to the First Team All-Pac-12 and the All-Defensive Team last season. He averaged 16.1 points, 6.9 rebouncs, 5.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

Kansas and Kentucky lead the country with four players each on the list. Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos is the only other player from the WCC named to the top 50. The Pac-12 features seven players on the list, including Arizona's Brandon Ashley, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Stanley Johnson; Colorado's Josh Stout; Oregon's Joesph Young; and Stanford's Chasson Randle.

The Wooden Award National Advisory Board will select 25 players in January for its midseason list. A total of 15 players will make the final cut before voters will name a winner.

The Wooden Award is given to the nation's best player in the country, who also maintains a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Creighton's Doug McDermott was last year's Wooden Award winner.
