SALT LAKE CITY — Severe thunderstorms have raged throughout Utah Saturday, and more storms are hitting Utah County and Salt Lake City this evening.
The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for some areas of Utah and severe thunderstorm watches for more than half the state.
Warning are in effect Utah County, Saratoga Springs, Lehi, American Fork, Highland, Cedar Hills, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Orem, Provo, and Mt. Timpanogos. They warned of lightning, rain, hail, and wind.
The NWS in Salt Lake has said there is intense rain in Northern Utah Counties which has resulted in flooding throughout Saratoga Springs.
Motorists were encouraged to pull over and wait for the storm to pass as hail can accumulate on the roadway.
Utahns were asked to prepare for half-dollar-size hail and 60 mph winds in addition to rain.
NWS also said earlier in the day that that rotation has been spotted in the storm while it was in Tooele County. The storm was moving from 20 to 40 mph.
A tornado warning was also been issued in central Cassia and and southwestern Minidoka Counties in Southeastern Idaho that has since passed.
Earlier, flash flood warnings were in effect for parts of Northeastern Millard County and Southeastern Juab County including but not limited to Leamington and Oak City. Rain has debris from the Seeley burn scar in Emery County flowed down the mountain. Reports are that car sized boulders are blocking roads at the base of Pole Canyon.
In Millard county debris from the Clay Springs burn scar flooded three homes in the fools creek area and damaged portions of Highway 125.
The NWS reminds people not to drive where water covers the roadway and to remain indoors during severe thunderstorms.
