Benzinger powers Wright State past Cleveland State 72-63

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Grant Benzinger scored 20 points and powered a late run Monday to help Wright State get past Cleveland State 72-63 on the Raiders' senior night.

Benzinger opened a 14-0 run with a 3-pointer that gave the Raiders (21-8, 13-3 Horizon League) the lead for good at 60-59 with eight minutes to go. Benzinger drove and dished to Everett Winchester on back-to-back baskets and capped the run with another 3-pointer to make it 71-59 with 3:47 left.

Wright State trailed for over 15 straight minutes and took its first lead of the second half on Mark Hughes' 3-pointer at 54-51.

With the victory, the Raiders stayed tied for first place in the league standings and hold the season series tiebreaker over Northern Kentucky which is also 13-3.

Benzinger was 5 of 10 from 3-point range with six rebounds and five assists. Hughes added 16 points and Loudon Love scored 15.

Bobby Word was 5 of 9 from 3-point range and led the Vikings (8-22, 5-12) with 18 points.
