Towson beats Coppin State 81-77 in OT

BALTIMORE (AP) — Byron Hawkins scored 20 points with five rebounds as Towson beat Coppin State 81-77 in overtime on Saturday.

Hawkins was 4 of 7 from the field and 11 of 13 from the line for the Tigers (4-3). William Adala Moto scored 17 points and John Davis added 15.

Hawkins struck from the paint to start the overtime period, giving Towson a 71-69 edge and they never trailed from then on. Coppin State closed the gap to 79-77 with two seconds to go but two foul shots by Adala Moto in the final second sealed the win.

The Tigers had a 38-37 lead at halftime and led by as many as six points early in the second period. They fell behind to trail 57-50 with 11:50 to go in regulation then fought back to tie it, 63-63, on a dunk by Davis with 5:21 left.

Josh Treadwell scored 15 points for the Eagles (2-3).
