CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina recruit Tony Grimes says he plans to reclassify and graduate this summer so that he can join the Tar Heels for the upcoming season. Grimes announced his plan in a social-media post Friday. Grimes is the nation’s top-rated cornerback for the class of 2021 and the No. 7 recruit overall according to 247sports. He recently committed to the Tar Heels out of Virginia Beach, Virginia, in a huge recruiting win for Mack Brown’s staff.

UNDATED (AP) — The Big Ten and Pac-12 became the first leagues to shift to an all-conference fall schedule as the college sports world faces difficult decisions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. More Power Five conferences could follow, causing a ripple effect on small-conference schools across the country. If more big conferences ditch nonconference games, smaller schools who rely on “buy games” to help fund their athletic departments will take huge financial hits at a time when they’re already facing ugly bottom lines.

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says Duke is in talks with Boston Celtics assistant coach and former WNBA All-Star Kara Lawson to lead the Blue Devils women’s basketball program. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because the school hasn’t commented publicly on its search. The 39-year-old Lawson has become the leading candidate to replace Joanne P. McCallie, who announced last week she wouldn’t return for a 14th season. Lawson played under Pat Summitt at Tennessee and was part of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team that won a gold medal in Beijing.
