CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — People who live near a proposed ethanol plan in the Caldwell area are fighting the plant they say will lower property values, spoil their views and bring unwanted traffic, noise and odor to the neighborhood. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports neighbors have packed the room at public hearings about the ethanol plant. They have written in opposition to the plan and have signed a petition to keep the project away from their homes. Demeter Bio-Resources wants to build a 50,000-square-foot food processing plant that includes an ethanol plant near Caldwell.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho was the third highest milk producing state last year, behind California and Wisconsin. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Idaho cows produced about 13.9 billion pounds of milk in 2014. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that's an increase from 13.4 billion pounds in 2013 and helped Idaho take the No. 3 spot back from New York. California is the top producer with more than 42 billion pounds of milk, and Wisconsin comes in second with more than 27 billion pounds.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A group of 10 eastern Idaho potato growers and a shipper have filed a lawsuit seeking to end a quarantine and testing of fields imposed by state and federal authorities after the discovery of a microscopic pest that led some countries to ban Idaho spuds. The group in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Idaho last week cites the 10th Amendment concerning state's rights in arguing the federal government is illegally imposing regulations in Idaho through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (AP) — Authorities are investigating a motorcycle-on-deer crash that injured two people north of Soda Springs, Idaho. Idaho State Police says the crash happened after noon on Saturday on Highway 34 after a deer ran onto the roadway. According to police, 48-year-old Van Jorgensen of Lewiston, Utah and his passenger, 44-year-old Susana Jorgensen, struck the deer with their 2014 Harley Davidson. Both riders were transported via ground ambulance to Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs.
