A Utah group, probably best known for its fight to get school vouchers, is now out with a new Web site.
Parents for Choice in Education put together the new Web site as a one-stop shop for information about the state's K-12 education system.
Executive Director Judi Clark says they know vouchers probably are never going to happen, so they're focusing on what they can do. She says, "I think this is a step forward because it's going to properly prepare everyone else to really actively engage in the changes that need to take place."
Utaheducationfacts.com is the site. It links parents to everything from test scores and school performance, to how schools are funded, where to find after school programs, and even contact information for schools and elected leaders.
Clark says through the fight to get school vouchers in Utah, the group realized parents were uneducated about the schools. We asked her what the most common misconception was. She replied, "I think most people don't understand that 100 percent of our [state] income tax goes to public education, and a large majority of our property taxes is also dedicated to that."
