LONETREE, Wyoming — A 10-year-old Utah girl died in a rollover crash Sunday just north of the Utah border in southwest Wyoming.
The crash took place about 3:45 p.m. Sunday on Wyoming route 414, according to a Facebook post from the Wyoming Highway Patrol on Tuesday.
A Chevrolet Suburban rolled over on the highway just a mile north of the Utah border, about 10 miles west of Manila, the agency said.
The SUV drifted off the right side of the road, and the driver corrected to the left, but then overcorrected back to the right, the highway patrol said. The SUV then went off the right side of the road and overturned.
Arriahna Ball, a 10-year-old girl from Manila, Utah, was a passenger in the SUV, according to a Facebook post from the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office.
Arriahna was not wearing her seatbelt correctly and was taken in a medical helicopter to Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal, where she later died from her injuries, the highway patrol said.
“Sheriff Erik Bailey extends his sincerest condolences to Arriahna's family and to everyone who knew and loved her,” the Daggett County Sheriff’s post said.
The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Manila woman, was taken to a hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and treated for her injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt.
Driver inattention was being investigated as a possible factor in the crash, the highway patrol said. The Suburban was the only car involved in the crash.
