LAYTON — A registered sex offender accused of walking onto the grounds of a northern Utah school to kiss a teen girl pleaded not guilty to several felony charges in court this week.
Dominic Troy Dunn, 20, was charged April 2 in 2nd District Court with enticing a minor and eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies. He was also charged with failing to register as a sex offender, a third-degree felony; and being a sex offender in a protected area, a class A misdemeanor.
According to charging documents and a newly unsealed search warrant filed by Layton police, Dunn walked onto the grounds of Northridge High School on March 25 to meet a 16-year-old girl and kissed her. Being on any school property is illegal for a sex offender in Utah.
A Layton police detective discovered that Dunn had a Facebook page, another violation of his probation from his previous conviction. The officer contacted Dunn posing as a 13-year-old girl, the warrant states. The conversation moved to text messaging, during which "Dominic requested to meet and have sex with what he believed to be a 13-year-old juvenile female," the charges state.
On March 29, when Dunn arrived at a designated meeting location for the purpose of having sex with the 13-year-old girl, he was arrested.
When Dunn was taken into custody, investigators found he was in possession of two cellphones.
"He had multiple social media accounts, which is also a violation of his felony probation. I also located a 14-15-year-old juvenile female that he had been talking with and exchanging nude pictures. Dominic had multiple images of noticeable child pornography on his phone and also numerous chats from underage and young looking girls," the charges state.
On Tuesday, Dunn entered not guilty pleas to his charges. His next scheduled court hearing is a pretrial conference on May 14.
The charges come less than a year after Dunn was convicted of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor in Cache County's 1st District Court. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail with credit for time served. In that case, Dunn, who was 19 at the time, was exchanging pornographic pictures with a 17-year-old girl. The pictures were discovered by the girl's mother on her school-issued laptop, according to charging documents.
