SPRINGVILLE — A man is dead after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle Friday night, officials said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. 89 and came to a “Y intersection” with South Main Street, according to Springville Police Lt. Warren Foster. The vehicle made a right-hand turn onto South Main Street and saw a motorcycle heading in the opposite direction of the vehicle, Foster said.

“As the vehicle made the turn, the motorcycle appeared to have lost control (and) the rider laid the motorcycle down and collided with the vehicle,” he said.

Ricky Giles, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, Foster said.

The driver of the vehicle and a passenger were not injured in the crash. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities, Foster said.

Authorities confirmed Giles was wearing a helmet and protective gear. Officials are unsure of his speed at the time of the crash but believe slick roads may have contributed to him losing control, Foster said.

Further details were not immediately available.
