SALT LAKE CITY — A Lehi-based company looking to hire someone to send to Cancun, Mexico, and pay them $60,000 narrowed its search to 10 finalists Wednesday.

The finalists hailed from six different states or districts, and four countries. A winner is expected to be announced Jan. 31.

The job search, which was announced in November, garnered more than 8,000 submissions from 120 countries, said Cancun.com general manager Chad Meyerson. Cancun.com is a partner of Lehi-based TravelPass Group.

Meyerson said he was impressed with the creativity from videos submitted.

“We wanted them to tell us more than just, ‘Hey I love to travel,’” he said. “Most of the world wants to travel, it’s a wonderful experience — we wanted them to tell us what sets them apart.”

The Top 10 finalists will travel to Cancun to showcase their talents there before the winner is selected. Two Utah candidates were in the Top 50 in the running of the event but did not make the final cut.

In fact, a Utah couple won the voting stage among the Top 50 candidates but a spokesperson for the company said that was just one factor of the full decision the company made for its finalists.

The finalists are:

  • Rich, Khadijiah, Khaliyah, Khaiyah and Tre Barber from Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Tennessee and Collin Hauser from Dallas, Texas
  • Meritxell Martorell from Barcelona, Spain
  • Rafael Melo and Jennifer Brill from Washington, D.C.
  • Ivan Nanney from Boise, Idaho
  • Muriel Rebora from Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Greg Rola and Kaitlyn Hoiles from Toronto, Canada
  • Jon Watson from Orlando, Florida
  • Tess Wicks from Chicago, Illinois
  • Juliana Wynkoop and Martin Gomez Garcia from Sacramento, California
