LAYTON, Utah (AP) - Police say a man had his ear ripped off and suffered other injuries when a tractor ran him over at a Smith's distribution center in Layton.

The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/VlDYco ) 50-year-old Robert Stone was walking through a work yard at the facility when he was hit by a machine that moves goods from a semitrailer onto a loading dock.

Layton police Sgt. John Holden says Stone had a broken leg, a gash on the arm and a head injury in addition to his torn-off ear.

He was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.

Holden said the incident was an accident and no charges will be filed.
