WASHINGTON TERRACE — A man riding his motorcycle to work Monday morning was struck by a car and killed, police said.

The 61-year-old Washington Terrace resident was hit by a red Honda Civic while traveling northbound on 300 West at 7:40 a.m., according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Honda was a 61-year-old woman traveling eastbound on 4800 South.

“She stopped at the stop sign at 300 West, but then pulled out in front of the motorcycle,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “She claimed the morning sun was in her eyes and she never saw the other vehicle.”

The man was driving between 30 and 35 mph and wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to investigators. He broke his leg and sustained other injuries when he struck the side of the Honda, police said.

He was taken to the Ogden Regional Medical Center for treatment and later died. Investigators said the exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The uninjured woman was cited for failure to yield the right of way and driving on a denied license, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This accident serves as another sad reminder that drivers need to exercise caution and be especially watchful this time of year as there are many motorcycles and bicycles out on the roadways,” a statement from the police reads.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
