KEARNS — Police on Monday identified the 1-year-old boy who died after being run over Saturday in a Kearns driveway as James Laloulu.
About 12:51 p.m. Saturday, Unified police responded to a report of an auto-pedestrian accident at 5420 W. Planda Way (4885 South). James had been playing with other kids in a fenced-in section of the front yard.
A 46-year-old family member opened a gate and was backing out of the driveway in a Chevy Tahoe, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said. The boy somehow got behind the Tahoe and was run over. He was transported in extremely critical condition to Intermountain Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Hoyal said.
"It appears it was just a very sad and unfortunate accident," he said. "It's just so important that when little kids are around, you've got to be very careful when backing out of the driveway. They can get away and get under a car so quickly, before you can react."
