APPLE VALLEY, Washington County — Authorities have located the body of a woman who went missing while camping in Southern Utah over the weekend.

Washington County Search and Rescue volunteers located the body of Sarah Frances Cox, 33, Tuesday afternoon, according to a post on the Washington County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. It is believed her death was self-inflicted, though the statement said the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner will determine an official cause of death.

Earlier in the day, Washington County deputies asked for the public’s help in locating Cox, who was last seen camping with her husband and son in the Little Creek Mountain area, southwest of Apple Valley. Cox reportedly left the campsite on foot, according to Washington County Sheriff’s Lt. David Crouse.

When she didn’t return by Monday, her husband reported her missing. Deputies and volunteers from the Washington County Search and Rescue were dispatched to the area but called off their search Monday evening because of severe thunderstorms in the area, Crouse said.

The search continued again Tuesday, and the Utah Highway Patrol helicopter was being used to assist in the search.
