COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a Southern California man initially thought to be a witness to a shooting that killed his girlfriend and wounded their 8-year-old daughter has been arrested for the crime.
The Los Angeles County sheriff's department says 29-year-old Juan Rodriguez of Compton was arrested for investigation of murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities say the woman was found shot dead in a home in the unincorporated area of Compton early Saturday. They say two small children were also at the home but were unharmed.
Authorities later learned that the children's father had taken the couple's daughter to a hospital with a gunshot wound. She is in critical condition.
Authorities say the shooting occurred during an argument between the couple.
