OREM, Utah (AP) — Utah County prosecutors will not file criminal charges against the Orem mayor who was accused of misusing his city retirement account.
The Daily Herald reports the prosecutors' office said in a statement Thursday that it appears dates were altered on Mayor Richard Brunst's withdrawal documents, but there's no evidence he intended to commit fraud.
Prosecutors say Brunst appears to have violated city policy that restricts withdrawals to twice a year, but there is no proof that the mayor was aware of those restrictions.
Brunst says he's happy with the findings, and he did not intend any fraud when he changed four dates for convenience.
He says it was a "mistake on my part to which I have apologized."
The Orem City Council is working on its own probe.
