SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities have identified the man killed by a police officer during a shootout at a Salt Lake City apartment complex on Monday.
Detective Michael Ruff with Salt Lake City Police said Wednesday 43-year-old Michael Brand was shot and killed by an officer responding to a call about a psychiatric problem.
Authorities say Brand was the subject of the call and pulled a weapon on police when they arrived at the building Monday afternoon. One of the officers fired his gun at Brand in response, killing him and wounding another officer. The officer has been treated and released from a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No additional information about the incident has been released. The Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake is investigating the incident.
