Dear Doctors,

We thank you. For the long days, the 80-hour weeks, and the sleep deprivation. For gallantly rushing to the battlefield to fight against sickness and disease along side us. For choosing a career that exposes yourself to life’s most difficult circumstances. For making the decisions that save lives, and for the stoic heroism to handle the losses when life slips away.

We thank you. For the dignity and respect you show us each and every time we visit. For the consistent care and personal understanding. For choosing the path few dare to traverse. The path that involved years and years of training. The path that’s fraught with difficult patients and hypochondriacs in the age of WebMD.

In honor of today, National Doctor’s Day, we thank you. Our society owes you a deep level of gratitude. If you’ve yet to be thanked today, let TrueNorth Wealth be the first.

We thank you for your Confidence in your work, in your treatment, and in your care. Your confidence assures us that we’re in good hands. In 2015, a report found that 87,000 more lives were saved annually than ever before. It signifies that our ailments matter and that our concerns are heard. Your confidence transforms you into our advocate. It allows you to be the extra eyes and ears of the patient.

We thank you for your Empathy. For willingly shouldering our concerns as your own. For allowing yourselves to feel, even when that pain means sharing in gut-wrenching grief. For caring deeply about our health and our quality of life. For employing empathy as a way to help serve us better. In a recent survey, 85 percent of patients say they feel uniquely connected with their doctor; translating into increased levels of trust, and ultimately higher standards of care.

We thank you for your Resilience, both mentally and emotionally. For giving patient after patient after patient the best possible care. For fighting burnout, something doctors are nearly 15 times more likely to face than professionals in other industries. For pushing yourself to be better today than you were yesterday. For actively working to build resilience through concerted effort and consistent practice.

We thank you for your Humility. For putting your patient’s needs above your own. For long shifts at the hospital — on average doctor’s will spend nearly 36 years working 1.5 times the number of hours as the average American — and for working holidays and missing birthdays. We thank you for your humility to choose to sleep in on-call rooms and on office chairs more often than in your own bed.

Doctors, TrueNorth Wealth is honored to work with so many of you. We strive to embody your exemplifications of confidence, resilience, empathy, integrity and humility in our own work, in our personal lives and in all that we do.
