SALT LAKE CITY - Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn will have surgery on his left shoulder in the next 10 days to two weeks and will miss the remainder of the season. The decision was reached today after the third-year starter underwent a series of tests to re-evaluate the injury he suffered in the first half of Utah's loss to Washington on Oct. 1.
"Obviously, this is disappointing news for Jordan and the entire team," said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. "Jordan worked incredibly hard to come back from his shoulder surgery last winter and we are confident he will take the same approach with his rehab this time around. The good news is that he is eligible for a redshirt season."

It is the second season-ending shoulder surgery for Wynn, who had surgery on his right (throwing) arm on Dec. 13, 2010 and missed the Las Vegas Bowl. He started the first four games this season, posting a 2-2 record to improve to 13-6 in his career at Utah.
The junior from Oceanside, Calif., has completed 66-of-116 passes this season for 727 yards and six touchdowns (two interceptions). Before playing just one half against Washington (149 passing yards), Wynn had thrown for more than 200 yards in back-to-back games, including a season-high 239 yards against BYU.
Wynn, who has 10 career 200-yard passing games and four career 300-yard games, ranks ninth all-time in career passing yards at Utah with 4,390. He needs just 12 more yards to move into a tie for eighth place and is the 11th quarterback in school history to pass for 4,000 yards. His 31 career touchdown passes is tied for the sixth-highest total at Utah.
He has been replaced in the starting lineup by junior transfer Jon Hays, who joined the team in the summer when Nebraska-Omaha dropped its football program. Hays took over for the injured Wynn in the second half against Washington and made his first NCAA start last week against Arizona State.
