W. Carolina uses early run to defeat The Citadel 92-75

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Deriece Parks scored 19 points with eight rebounds and March Gosselin scored 13 with 12 rebounds and Western Carolina beat The Citadel 92-75 on Sunday in a Southern Conference finale.

Western Carolina (13-18, 8-10) enters the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed and The Citadel (10-20, 8-10) as the eighth seed.

Kaiden Rice made three 3-pointers and Matt Frierson added another in a two-minute span and The Citadel led 22-14 with 12:11 to play. That's when the Catamounts launched a 23-4 run over the next six minutes as Parks made five field goals including three 3s and they never trailed again.

Western Carolina led 49-37 at intermission, started the second half with a 7-0 run and led by double figures for most of the rest of the contest. Mike Amius scored 16 points and Devin Peterson scored 14 with seven assists, as the pair both shot 6 of 10 from the field. Ashley Williams scored 11 and made all seven of his foul shots.

Rice scored a career-high 28 points, Frierson finished with 14 and Zane Najdawi scored 10 with nine rebounds.
