FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Tre Coggins scored 17 points and Cal State Fullerton upended Big West Conference leader UC Irvine with a 56-54 win Wednesday night.
The Anteaters (16-13, 9-4) remain in first place in conference and the Titans (14-12, 8-5) move into third place behind no. 2 UC Davis.
After a slow second-half start for both teams, UC Irvine surged into the lead midway and a Jaron Martin 3-pointer made it 39-33 with 10:11 to play. The Titans fought back and went ahead on a Lionheart Leslie 3, 44-41, with 6:16 remaining. The Anteaters closed it to 55-54 with four seconds to go but the Titans held on for the win.
Jackson Rowe added 17 points for CS Fullerton. Leslie had 11. The Titans had a 47-39 rebounding edge over UC Irvine.
Luke Nelson led the Anteaters with 20 points. Martin added 12.
Both teams came into the game riding a three-game win streak.
