Cal Poly pulls away early to beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Victor Joseph scored 19 points, Kyle Toth added 17 and Cal Poly beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 82-70 on Saturday night.

Joseph was 6 of 11 from the field and made four 3-pointers. Toth made five 3-pointers and a pair of free throws. Luke Meikle added 13 points and Donovan Fields had 12 for the Mustangs (5-4), who shot 28 of 50 for 56 percent shooting from the floor.

Rashawn Thomas scored 24 points to lead the Islanders (5-1). Amin Ehab added 18 points and Cole Martinez finished with 10 points.

The Mustangs had a 21-point halftime lead. Martinez made a 3-pointer to pull the Islanders to 58-52 with 9:43 left, but they didn't get closer.

Cal Poly plays its next five games on the road before opening Big West Conference play at UC Davis on Jan. 7. The Islanders visit Texas A&M on Monday.
