Southern California blasts Arizona State 31-9

PHOENIX (AP) — Frankie Rios was 4 for 4 with a career-high six RBIs in Southern California's 31-9 victory over Arizona State on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

The Trojans were four short of the school record for runs of 35 set in 1959 against Occidental. Southern California had 30 hits, six off the team record set in 1997 against UC Santa Barbara.

Arizona State set a school record for runs allowed, breaking the mark set by California in a 29-6 victory in 1986. The 30 hits and 22-run margin were each one off the Arizona State futility records set in the game against California.

Angelo Armenta was 4 for 6 with a career-high five RBIs, and Timmy Robinson was 4 for 6 with four RBIs to help Southern California finish the regular season 28-28 overall and 15-15 in the Pac-12.

Sun Devils starter Eli Lingos (3-5) lasted only 12 pitches and didn't record an out, with the Trojans scoring four runs on four hits. Southern California had five runs in the first, seven in the second, two in the third, a season-high nine in the fourth, two in the fifth, two in the sixth, and four in the eighth.

Marrick Crouse (3-0) allowed five runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.

Andrew Shaps and Colby Woodmansee homered for Arizona State. The Suns Devils dropped to 31-21 overall and 16-14 in the Pac-12.
