HONOLULU (AP) — Roderick Bobbitt hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points with six rebounds and seven assists and Hawaii defeated UC Irvine 74-52 on Thursday night in a showdown for first place in the Big West.
Aaron Valdes added 16 points and nine rebounds and Sal Tummala had 12 points on four 3-pointers for the Rainbow Warriors (19-3, 8-1), who have their best record since the 2001-02 team was 20-3.
Tummala hit two 3-pointers and Bobbitt's 3 at 8:01 of the first half capped a 13-0 run that put the Rainbows up 22-11. Bobbitt's 3 at 4:06 that made it 34-19 was the last of a string when all seven of Hawaii's makes were treys. The Rainbows, who led 38-21 at halftime, finished 14 of 30 behind the arc and 11 of 29 inside.
Luke Nelson had 11 points for the Anteaters (18-7, 7-2), who host the rematch in nine days. They shot 31 percent (20 of 64).
