BYU finishes weekend sweep of Long Beach
The BYU men's volleyball team continued their winning ways Saturday, maintaining their No. 1 national ranking with their ninth straight match victory after defeating No. 4 ranked Long Beach State in straight sets on the road.
"This was as good of a match as we've played," BYU head coach Chris McGown said. "The boys put everything together tonight. We played as well-rounded of a game as I've seen us play, and it was against a tough team in a tough environment."
Freshman Ben Patch led the Cougars with 12 kills, and senior Ryan Boyce added 35 assists. More stats are available here.
Cougars complete series win over Jayhawks
BYU (11-12) took two of three games from Kansas (14-8) over the weekend, winning their fourth series of the season.
"Execution was the name of the game today," BYU head coach Mike Littlewood said. "It was an overall team effort."
The Cougars won Saturday, 6-3 scoring in the first inning after a 14-minute snow delay. Desmond Poulson threw a complete game shutout Thursday in a 3-0 win. The Cougars lost 15-4 on Friday, after giving up nine runs in the first two innings.
BYU women's basketball team advances in WNIT
The BYU women's basketball team defeated San Diego State 69-58 Saturday at the Marriott Center to advance to the third round of the WNIT.
"San Diego State is a very good team," BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. "I was proud of how our team handled their pressure tonight. It's a great win for us."
BYU had four players score in double figures, with Kim Parker Beeston leading the team with 17 points. Jennifer Hamson had 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
The team will play Saint Mary's on Wednesday, March 27, in the third round of the WNIT. The time has yet to be announced, but the game will be played at the Marriott Center. Home court could be an advantage for the team, with the Gaels and Cougars each winning games at home against each other this season during West Coast Conference play.
