CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — The wife of imprisoned Caracas mayor Antonio Ledezma asked the Organization of American States on Tuesday to intervene on the opposition leader's behalf.
Mitzy Ledezma met with officials at the regional organization's Caracas headquarters.
Venezuela's socialist administration has opened cases against 33 of the country's 50 opposition mayors, according to the Venezuelan Mayors Association. Ledezma's arrest last month on charges of plotting against the government provoked spontaneous demonstrations and drew international condemnation.
