HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — The scene outside a memorial service for a gunshot victim erupted in more gunfire in North Carolina early Wednesday, sending seven people to hospitals with bullet wounds.

The shootings were reported around 12:40 a.m as some people lingered after a Tuesday night memorial service for Alphonse Macer Jr., 35, of High Point, who was found shot to death Monday in a wrecked car, Police Lt. Curtis Cheeks III said.

Officers found two people with gunshot wounds. Five others were taken to hospitals in private cars. One had serious injuries, but the others weren't considered life-threatening, Cheeks said. Several homes also were struck by gunfire.

Cheeks said investigators are trying to determine how many people fired weapons, and why. No arrests have been made in any of the shootings, he said.
