COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in northern Idaho say damage is estimated at $15,000 after vandals destroyed a bell at a memorial for veterans in Coeur d'Alene.
Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor says the 350-pound "Pappy's Bell" at the Veterans Memorial in McEuen Field shattered sometime over the weekend when it fell after someone broke the frame holding it aloft.
Taylor tells the Coeur d'Alene Press (http://bit.ly/2dWqW1P) that it's unclear if the bell can be repaired.
The bell was donated to the city in the 1950s.
Police are investigating.
