HONOLULU (AP) — A second Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant is among the more than 200 people sickened with hepatitis A.
The Hawaii Health Department announced Tuesday that the infected flight attendant served food and beverages on four flights between July 31 and Aug. 12. Health officials say the risk of transmission from the attendant is extremely low but the public is being alerted as a caution.
According to the health department, 206 people have contracted Hepatitis A in Hawaii since mid-June. Frozen scallops served raw at a sushi chain have been identified as the probable source of the outbreak. They ordered 11 Genki Sushi restaurants on Oahu and Kauai to close.
State epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park says the newest flight attendant serves as a reminder that hepatitis A symptoms can appear up to 50 days after exposure.
