NEW YORK (AP) — Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh has been ruled out for New York's game with the New Jersey Devils with a possible concussion.

Coach Alain Vigneault says the defenseman was still feeling the effects of being punched in the face by Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds in the first period Saturday.

McDonagh did not play after being hit with Simmonds' gloved hand.

Simmonds was given a game misconduct, but that was for throwing his stick in the directions of the officials. The NHL did not fine or suspend him, which miffed the Rangers coach.

Vigneault says "An All-Star player gets sucker-punched, goes down. I wonder if that's (Sidney) Crosby, what happens? What are the consequences?"

Rangers forward Rick Nash also missed his sixth straight game on Monday night with a bone bruise in his left leg.
