Twins win the first of two against the Jays

UNDATED (AP) — On a cold day in Minneapolis the Twins got eight scoreless innings from winning pitcher Kyle Gibson in a 7-0 win. Gibson gave up four singles, struck out four and walked one to improve to 3-0.

At the start of play the temperature was 31 degrees, the coldest for an outdoor game in Twins history.

The game was the opener of a day-night double header.

In other major league play;

— Ben Revere's RBI single in the eighth gave Philadelphia a 1-0 win over Atlanta. Braves starter Alex Wood went the distance giving up eight hits and striking out seven, to take the loss.

— Ian Kinsler homered and drove in four runs to help Detroit beat Cleveland 7-5. The Indians Lonnie Chisenhall had four hits to raise his average to .522.

— Mitch Moreland drove in three runs in the Rangers' 8-6 win over Seattle. Kevin Kouzmanoff had two doubles to up his batting average to .414 since joining Texas on April 9. Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH') hit a three-run homer in the Mariners' six-run third inning.

MLB-MOVES

Cards' Kelly on DL

WASHINGTON (AP) — St. Louis right-hander Joe Kelly has been put on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Kelly got hurt while trying to beat out a bunt attempt in the fourth inning of the Cardinals' 5-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. He is 1-1 with a 0.59 ERA in three starts this season.

NHL-PLAYOFFS

Four more series being play tonight

UNDATED (AP) — Tonight marks the second night of play in the Stanley Cup playoffs and four games are on the agenda.

In Denver the Central Division champion Avalanche open up with a game against Minnesota. They played five times during the season with the Avs winning four of the contests. This series marks the third time these teams have met in the opening round of the playoffs.

The second and third place teams from the Central open up play tonight with a game in St. Louis as the Blues entertain the Blackhawks. The Blues won the first three games played between the teams this season while the Blackhawks came back to win the remaining two. The Blues will be without forward T.J. Oshie who has missed the last four games after taking a shoulder to the face against Minnesota last week. Vladimir Tarasenko will return to the Blues after missing the last 15 games with a broken thumb.

In a game featuring two teams from the Metropolitan Division, the Rangers are hosting the Flyers. They split the four regular season games with each team winning twice at home. The Flyers are starting the playoffs without the services of their top goalie, Steve Mason, who is out with an upper body injury.

And in the final game of the day San Jose, the runner-up in the Pacific Division, is home to Los Angeles. This marks the third time since 2011 the Sharks and Kings have met in postseason play. L.A. won the regular season series with a 3-1-1 record.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-NBA DRAFT

Duke and Kentucky lose freshmen to the NBA draft/UCLA keeps a player

UNDATED (AP) — Duke's Jabari (juh-BAR'-ee) Parker says in an essay posted on SI.Com that he is headed to the NBA. Parker, who was the highest scoring freshman in Duke history, says the NBA offers him the best chance to develop as a player. The All-American has a strong chance of being the No. 1 overall pick in June.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky guard James Young has announced that he will enter the NBA draft, becoming the first of the Wildcats' heralded freshmen to turn pro. The 6-foot-6 Young led Kentucky with 82 3-pointers last season. He was one of six high school All-American recruits on the Wildcats.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The UCLA basketball team and its fans got some good news when Jordan Adams announced he will return to for his junior season and won't enter the NBA draft. Adams led the Bruins in scoring with 17.4 points per game, was the second-leading rebounder with 5.3 per game, and set the school single-season steals record with 95. He was named first team All-Pac-12.

NFL-NEWS

UNDATED (AP) — Indianapolis police have arrested Jacksonville wide receiver Tandon Doss on a disorderly conduct charge, but he will not be prosecuted.

A police report says the 24-year-old Doss was "out of control" and arrested during a disturbance with another man Wednesday afternoon. The report provided no additional details on the incident.

Adams said the Marion County Prosecutor's Office declined to file charges

— Jacksonville has released veteran linebacker Russell Allen after he failed his physical. Allen started 29 games the past two seasons, but missed the final two games last year with a concussion.

CFL-JOHNSON

Johnson heads north

MONTREAL (AP) — Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson is heading to the Canadian Football League. The 36-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes The former Pro Bowler last appeared in an NFL game during the 2011 season with New England. Johnson, who once changed his last name to Ochocinco (oh-choh-SINK'-oh), is 30th on the NFL's all-time receiving list with 11,059 yards.

PGA-RBC HERITAGE

Three in the lead

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (AP) — Matt Kuchar (KOO'-chur), Scott Langley and William McGirt share the lead late in the first round of the RBC Heritage tournament after posting 5-under-66's. They enjoy a one-shot lead over Harris English. Masters' co-runner-up Jordan Spieth (SPEETH) is among a group that shot 69 and trail by three shots.

LPGA-LOTTE CHAMPIONSHIP

Wie takes lead

KAPOLEI, Hawaii (AP) — Michelle Wie (WEE) shot a 5-under 67 to take the early clubhouse lead in the second round of the LPGA Lotte (LOH'-tay) Championship. Wie's bogey-free round left her at 7-under par, one shot in front of South Korea's Hyo Joo Kim, who shot a 70.

METRODOME

Minneapolis stadium demolished

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Metrodome is no more.

Project leaders for the new Minnesota Vikings stadium say the demolition of the team's old home has been completed ahead of schedule. The new facility, costing nearly $1 billion, is scheduled to open in 2016. About 80 percent of materials from the torn-down stadium will be recycled, including 80,000 tons of concrete.
