TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals have signed punter Matt Wile to the practice squad. The move could be a first step in the team replacing Drew Butler.

Butler, who ranks last statistically among NFL punters, had a 28-yard kick in last weekend's victory over Washington and has been inconsistent when healthy.

Coach Bruce Arians expressed his displeasure with Butler on Monday but said any replacement also would have to be able to take Butler's place as holder, too.

Wile averaged 58 yards on two punts in a game for Atlanta earlier this season. He spent the offseason with Dallas before being released in the final roster cuts.

To make room, Arizona released linebacker Reshard Cliett from the practice squad.
