CLEVELAND (AP) — Terrelle Pryor has run a comeback route to the Browns.

The quarterback-turned-wide receiver has agreed to sign with Cleveland, a person familiar with the decision told the Associated Press on Tuesday. A former Ohio State star and Oakland quarterback, Pryor will join the struggling Browns — as a wide receiver — for the remainder of this season, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the signing.

Pryor was in training camp this summer with Cleveland but was limited by a nagging hamstring injury and was one of the last players cut. The Browns were intrigued with his size and potential but decided not to keep him. However, with wide receivers Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel sidelined with concussions, the Browns have a major need at the position.

Pryor worked out with several other teams this season, but didn't secure a roster spot with anyone. The 6-foot-4, 223-pounder decided to switch to wide receiver last summer after he was released by the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 26-year-old Pryor can also play quarterback, which could give the Browns some insurance with starter Josh McCown likely done for the season with a collarbone injury. McCown was injured in the fourth quarter of Monday night's 33-27 loss to the Ravens, who blocked a field goal and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown on the game's final play.

McCown was replaced by Austin Davis, who drove the Browns to a game-tying TD before the calamitous finish. Browns coach Mike Pettine could stick with Davis again this week against the Bengals or elevate Johnny Manziel, who was recently stripped of his starting job for his off-field behavior.
