LONDON (AP) - Britain's defense ministry says a soldier has been killed by enemy fire in southern Afghanistan.
The defense ministry says the soldier from the 14 Signals Regiment was shot on patrol Tuesday in the area of Kakaran in Helmand Province and died from his injuries at the scene.
The defense ministry did not name the soldier but said his next of kin have been informed.
The death brings to 445 the number of British personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001, and it is the seventh death this year.
