OGDEN — On the day of his hiring, newly minted Weber State football coach Jay Hill was tasked with bringing excitement to the Weber State football program.

If his first month at the helm is any indication, Hill is indeed ready to fill the bill. First, Hill took Southern Utah’s coordinators and chief recruiters; now, he is bringing a former college great to Ogden to help lead the Wildcats, as Hill announced the hiring of Quinton Ganther as an assistant coach.

“I’m really excited to have Quinton join our staff at Weber State,” Hill said in a press release Monday. “He was one of the best offensive players to play at Utah during my time there and he also brings NFL experience to our staff. He has a great offensive mind and is a great recruiter and understands the players. He will be a big asset for Weber State football.”

Ganther earned fame as one of Utah’s running backs during the Fiesta Bowl season of 2004, and played in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.

"I'm really excited to have Quinton join our staff at Weber State," Weber State coach Jay Hill said.

After retiring, Ganther served as a student assistant at Utah before serving a coaching internship with the Seahawks this past season.

Ganther is the latest hire by Hill. The former Utah great joins former SUU coordinators Steve Clark and Justin Ena, along with former SUU assistant coach Fesi Sitake and former Weber assistant Jason Kaufusi, on the Weber State coaching staff.
