MIAMI (AP) — Chris Cokley had 18 points and nine rebounds on Saturday night and UAB had a controlling lead almost the entire way in a 75-64 win over Florida International.
The Golden Panthers answered UAB's opening basket and then the Blazers (11-5, 2-1 Conference USA) scored 16 straight to open an 18-2 lead. FIU (7-9, 1-2) had a 13-4 run to close within 30-23, but UAB scored 12 straight near the end of the period and led by double digits the rest of the way.
Zack Bryant added 16 points and Nate Darling scored 13 for the Blazers, who led by as many as 24 in the second half.
FIU had a 12-3 run late in the second half to get the deficit as close as 11 in the final three minutes.
Trejon Jacob had 17 points and Brian Beard Jr. had 16 points, nine assists and four steals for the Panthers.
