BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Swiss champion Basel says it has completed the signing of Egypt international Omar Gaber from Cairo club Zamalek.
Basel says the 24-year-old Gaber, who can play on the right side of defense and midfield, has signed a four-year contract. Financial details of the much-speculated move were not disclosed.
Gaber follows an established path for young Egypt internationals to join Basel, and then transfer to a bigger club in Europe.
Mohamed Salah of Roma and Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny both impressed at the Swiss club before making big-money moves.
Basel won its seventh straight Swiss league title this month to earn direct entry to the Champions League group stage next season.
