KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Carter Starocci of Penn State rolled into the quarterfinals at the NCAA wrestling championships on Thursday, but now the three-time champ will have to face the top seed at 174 pounds. Starocci was given a surprising No. 9 seed after injury defaults at the Big Ten championships, so he will be wrestling No. 1 seed Mekhi Lewis of Virginia Tech much earlier than he might have otherwise. Starocci was part of another dominant day for the two-time defending champion Nittany Lions, who still have eight wrestlers chasing national titles. Among them is Aaron Brooks at 197 pounds, where he is trying to win his fourth championship.
