RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — Luis Carrera is the 36-hole leader of the Latin America Championship. The Mexican player is a senior at Central Florida. He had a bogey-free 67 in the wind at Grand Reserve in Puerto Rico. That gives him a one-shot lead over Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira of Argentina, who was a runner-up last year. Some of perks are starting to come into view at the halfway point. The winner of the Latin American Amateur gets an invitation to play in the Masters in April and the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club in June.
