Day one is in the books for the Aggies and without a doubt, the defense won the day.
"They definitely came out firing on all cylinders," junior quarterback Chuckie Keeton said.
He was pressured eight times, picked off once by Kyler Fackrell, and nearly a second time when Quinton Byrd failed to hold onto a ball he jumped in front of.
"I made a play on the ball," Byrd said. "It should have been an interception but they didn't get their hands on it, so we'll deal with it."
"With us being such a mature team," junior linebacker Zach Vigil said, "most people knew what they were doing, assignment-wise, so that allowed us to play faster."
"They definitely came out firing on all cylinders." Chuckie Keeton, USU quarterback.
The Aggies return 7 starters on defense, including Vigil who led the team with nine and half tackles for loss; a squad that didn't allow a first quarter touchdown in 2012. First year head coach Matt Wells liked what he saw from veteran squad.
"I see guys on defense that have played a lot for us; I think there was eight pressures in the first day and that's a lot of pressures. I thought they did a nice job."
Don't expect the dominance by the defense to last, Keeton has a plan; "I actually have a couple roommates that play on defense and I looked in their playbook last night."
Day two of practice starts Saturday at 2:15 on the practice field.
